Canvas Overview
Priming
Universal Priming
Universally primed canvases are suitable for both oil and acrylic painting. Depending on the structure, they are also suitable for impasto work, such as with plaster or filler.
Oil Priming
Oil-primed canvases are exclusively suitable for oil painting. Underpainting with acrylics adheres poorly and has a long drying time.
Absorbent Priming
These canvases are universally usable. In addition to acrylic and oil paints, they can also be used with highly diluted paints.
Highly Absorbent Priming / Tempera
These canvases are well suited for techniques like tempera. Acrylic and oil paints appear matte after drying and are difficult to apply.
Glued Canvases
All offered canvases were glued with PVA adhesive. Therefore, they are absorbent and react strongly to contact with moisture.
Texture
Very Fine, Moderately Fine, Fine and Extra Fine
These linens are characterized by a very smooth painting surface. Details of precise brushstrokes are especially well visible. This linen is excellent for hyperrealism, photorealism, and realism. The canvases are woven from fine yarns, ensuring there are no structural defects such as knots or protruding threads. They are well-suited for thin paint layers.
Medium Texture
This texture is a compromise between a relatively smooth surface and a robust linen. The structure of the threads is visible, but not intrusive.
Heavy, Rough, Very Rough
These linens are designed for large formats and heavy paint layers. The structure of the threads is clearly visible, and precise brushstrokes may be difficult to perceive. These canvases are ideal for abstract works and for use with textural materials.
GSM / Canvas Density
GSM refers to the weight of a square meter of fabric. In general, the higher this value, the denser the canvas. The thickness of the threads can also affect the weight. Densely woven canvases are more resistant to damage, and it is easier to remove pressure marks with moisture. The density of the canvas is less visible on primed canvases, but it is more difficult to prime the fabric manually without leaking through to the backside.
